136 firefighters trained on the new stokes basket recently purchased to replace an old one that was obsolete.
FFD continues to train its personnel to improve their ability on the fire ground. Each new firefighter is mandated to proceed through the Essentials of Firefighting program up to the level allowed by their age.

Seven more FFD firefighters completed Basic Vehicle Rescue Operations training at a PA Local Level Class sponsored by Hazleton City Fire Department. The class involved the use of hand and hydraulic tools to extricate victims of motor vehicle accidents.

Foundation 58 is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization, established in memory of Hazleton City Deputy Fire Chief Gabriel A. Mhley, dedicated to providing financial assistance to fire fighters, police officers, and emergency medical service personnel who have been diagnosed with cancer.

As FFD firefighters were engaged in the fatal fire on Ridge St. there was still a hoagie sale which was scheduled. So in the true spirit of the Northside, firefighter's family members, veteran members, community leaders, and the Freeland Crime Watch mustered up a force to get the job done.
Chief Joseph J. Stepansky presented his report for 2018. The department responded to 252 calls for service during the year. Along with the incidents department members attended training, maintained the apparatus, raised funds, and even found time for some fun.
Chief Joseph J. Stepansky authorized the release of the Training Report - 2018 which exhibited the dedication of department firefighters to improving their firefighting skills. This year FFD firefighters attended 1,871 hours of training.

Weatherly Citizens Chief Donald Weston presented to FFD a hand made wooden model of an aerial apparatus to acknowledge the long time relationship between the two departments. The Chief and his father spent much time and effort into the model which is an absolutely beautiful piece.

Last evening FFD firefighter ED Hoffer began his career as a HFD firefighter at a swearing in ceremony in the City. He along with Thomas Breznitsky, James Fenstemaker, Justin Zoshak, and Michael Volciak took the oath to protect the citizens of Hazleton which was adminstered by Mayor Jeff Cusat.

Recently FFD held its Annual Meeting to elect officers for the 2019 term. This is the third year where FFD officers had to meet minimum requirements to hold their post and Firefighter 1 Pro Board Certification along with completion of the NIMS series.

The Freeland Fire Department had another successful spaghetti dinner on November 18. The department members served up 250 dinners at the event which has become a Northside holiday tradition. The Kochie Family donates the entire event for the department's engine fund.
