The FFD cooks will be preparing a delicious Lenten Fish Dinner this Friday, 3/30. The dinner will consist of fish, potato, cole slaw, and dessert. It will be offered as take out only and from the hours of 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Three firefighters recently completed the Introduction to the Fire Service at LCCC/PSTI. They are Rob Witner, Jose Pichardo, and Marisha Moran. The department appreciates all their efforts and support their trek through the remaining parts of the program.
Chief Joseph Stepansky and the chief/line officers decided during the last quarter of 2011 to focus on updating the pre incident plans for many target hazards in the boro. Over the past 5 months firefighters worked on reviewing the plans, touring the sites, and formating the information.

The order was placed with Green's Communications to purchase 40 Motorola Minitor V which will provide for the transformation of our dispatch from alpha to voice. Freeland Borough Government stepped up and purchased 10 of the 40 units for the department for which we are extremely grateful.

FFD is in the process of converting from the alpha paging system to voice dispatch. The department was one of the first to go to Luzerne County Dispatch as early as 1996. At that time the county was going in the direction of the alpha system and FFD made a sizable investment in this equipment.
This was 6 County in Plymouth in 1981. Engineer Joe L. Stepansky was driving and 53 took home its first of many Best Appearing 1000 GPM Awards. A great time was had by all. Our chief at the time was Jeff Teliho he wore his famous red uniform jacket that day.
Ton Shand included a section on our new engine in his "Apparatus Architect" article in the 1/12 edition of Fire House Magazine. Tom has been a friend of this department for many years and his input has always been appreciated.

FFD was notified by the PA Office of Fire Commissioner it was awarded a $10,339.50 PA Fire Grant. These funds are earmarked for debt reduction and will be directly returned to the Commonwealth as a principal only payment of our loan on the new engine.
