Last evening FFD loaded up the engine and the truck and made the trek to HFD Southside Station for a PA Local Level Ground Ladder Refresher. HFD firefighter were also in attendance and all worked on throwing 14', 28', and 35' ladders to a variety of different roof simulations.

FFD has recently applied for an AFG to replace our truck. This process is highly competitive with no assurances to any department of receiving these sought after grants. However the department desires to be in a position to quickly move forward if a grant is received.
Yesterday the firefighters from FFD participated in "The Frally - Friends Helping Friends" to benefit Chrissi Gaffney Feussner who is battling cancer. Engine 1 was on display and the crew distributed fire prevention information to the crowd throughout the day.

Recently Tony and Kelly Kuklis were united in marriage in a ceremony in Virginia. Tony is a firefighter with FFD and a career firefighter/paramedic with the James City County Fire Department which surrounds Williamsburg, VA.

FFD sponsored a Haz Mat Ops Refresher on Monday, 7/23. This is an annual requirement of our station training for all our active firefighters. HFD Deputy Chief Brian Mandak was the instructor. The class included working on damming techniques and setting up our foam equipment.

Yesterday a group of firefighters led by Past Boro Chief John E. "Jeff" Teliho attended the PA Pump Primers Muster in Harrisburg. It was quite a display with over 50 vintage engines pumping out of Susquehanna River and another 50 rigs in static display.

Yesterday FFD attended the 109 th. Six County Convention sponsored jointly by Anthracite Steam Fire Co. 1 of Mount Carmel and Park Row Hose Co. 3 of Wallington, NJ. It was typical Six County weather with high heat and humidity but the camaraderie with the attendees made it all worth while.

FFD conducted its annual boot drive during the weekend in the boro. As always the drive is extremely successful and the generosity of the residents and visitors during race weekend is definitely appreciated.
FFD offers its sincere condolences to the Hazleton Fire Department, Diamond Engine Co. #2, and the family on the passing of Chief Emeritus Robert Nilles. Bob was chief of the Diamond for 16 years and during his tenure this company progressed in training and fire ground operations.
FFD offers its sincere congratulations to FDNY Rescue 1 and their Captain Robert Morris who received the Thomas R. Elsasser Memorial Medal at this year's ceremony held on June 6. They received this award for their efforts at a 2 alarm fire on January 10, 2011, at St.
