The annual Haunted Hayride was another success. The ride started at the Fire Station and then went through the Haunted Public Park then returned to the station. The ride was free of charge and well attended Friday and Saturday night there were over 400 children and adults that enjoyed the ride.

This afternoon FFD participated in the annual safe trick or treat event on Centre Street there were more than 1,000 Halloweeners that attended.

Yesterday afternoon Freeland Elementary/Middle School held their annual Halloween Parade through the streets of Freeland Boro. Freeland Fire Department assisted Freeland PD in traffic control the entire parade route.

Yesterday FFD assisted Valley Regional Fire with a fire prevention program at the Drums Elementary School. 270 students and 15 teachers grades K through 2 were given tours of Hazle Twp T-107, Valley Regional Rescue and Freeland E-55.

Last night FFD received training from Luzerne County 911 officials on the operation of the Mobile Computer Aided Dispatch system that was recently installed in Engine 55 and Ladder 57. The new Mobile CAD will help our department with receiving dispatches and communications with the 911 Center.

This evening FFD participated in a joint POW/MIA Tribute held by the Freeland American Legion Post 473 and Freeland VFW Post 5010. The event started at the Legion Home with a motorcade to the Freeland Public Park.

During the annual hose testing there was 13 lengths of 2" attack hose which had couplings leaking. The department along with Susquehanna Fire Equipment developed a plan to correct the situation and get the hose back in service.

The department's first Chicken Bar-B-Q was a big success as the meal turned out exactly as advertised. Vice President William Youmans and Firefighter Stan Quaintance presented to the membership a plan to conduct this fund raiser and start an annual late summer tradition.

The Annual White Haven Fire Co./FFD picnic was held with over 150 members, guests, and children attending at the Freeland VFW Grove. All had a great time eating the wide variety of foods, participating in games, and enjoying their beverage of choice.

Paul D. Lesser was recently inducted into the MMI Wall of Fame in the Catagory of Community Service. Paul is a 1973 graduate of MMI and has served FFD and other regional departments since the early 1970's.

Engine 55 was awarded the Best Appearing Emergency Unit at this year's Funfest Parade. FFD was proud to attend with our brother and sister firefighters from Hazleton City and West Hazleton Boro and pay tribute to the United States and those who perished in the 9/11 attacks.

This morning FFD firefighters manned the engine and attended the annual 9/11 Memorial Service sponsored by Hazleton City Fire Department. The service was held at Holy Rosary RC Church in the Heights Section of the city.
Our web site has been on line for only 3 years and recently exceeded 250,000 views. Thanks to our three web masters Chief 53, Engineer 509 and Engineer 511 the web site is all ways kept current with all our department news, training and calls.
