Chief Joseph J. Stepansky presented his report for 2012. The department responded to 226 calls for service during the year. Along with the incidents department members attended training, maintained the apparatus, raised funds, and even found time for some fun.

The annual sleigh ride party was held during this afternoon at the Della Croce Memorial Field in the Alvington Section of the Boro. Every year weather permitting the department membership gets together for a few hours of sledging and enjoying the winter landscape.

The Officers and Membership of the Freeland Fire Department wish everyone a safe, joyous, and holy Christmas. Santa is preparing his trip down from the North Pole to the Northside. He has no problem finding us since we are highest boro in the Commonwealth.
At appoximately 0400 hrs. on 12/23/87 the fire phones in the FFD system began to clang. On the phone was White Haven Assistant Chief John Klem calling from his station. You could hear the old house siren sounding and the roar of Engine 65 as it was crewing.
As always FFD likes to show its Christmas spirit by decorating the station in a very festive manner. Both the exterior and interior are trimmed in lights and our traditional tree is a sight to behold. As always the firefighters and the elves (juniors) worked very hard to show our yule tide glee. This afternoon the Tiger Cub Scouts visited the station for a fire prevention program. The scouts were presented with an educational session on the how to prevent emergencies and what to do in the event of a fire.

Chief Joseph Stepansky has authorized the release of the 2012 Training Report. Again the department firefighters exhibited a commitment to improving and maintaining their skills by completing 1,486 hours of training.

FFD performed its annual election of officers today at the annual meeting held in the station. As in the past and in accord with our by laws no member can hold two offices during the same term and this includes both administrative and chief/line office positions.

A Mass of Thanksgiving along with the blessing of fire apparatus was held today at Holy Dormition Monastery in Sybertsville, Sugarloaf Twp. FFD firefighters and apparatus along with other regional departments participated in the service.

This spaghetti dinner passed them all! Almost 200 Northsiders came into The Other Side Restaurant and feasted on a fine dinner of spaghetti, meatballs, salad, and some of the best deserts ever baked by our members and their significant others.

Last evening firefighters from FFD and White Haven Fire Co. completed the PA Local Level Pumps 1 program with a drafting exercise utilizing engines from both departments. The course was very informative and well instructed by Tony Riccardi, a PA Certified Instructor.

Recently FFD along with other regional departments entered into a joint purchase arrangements with Draeger to purchase new gas monitoring systems. A new 4 gas meter and a CO meter were purchased through our relief funds and are in the process of being placed in service.

Last week FFD firefighters participated in a Solar Panel Awareness Training at HFD Southside Station. The training focused on how these panels generate electricity and then distribute such to the attached structure and the electrical grid.
