Last evening FFD firefighters trained on the basic task of operating a hand line. The department standard 2" preconnect with a 1" tip was used in the evolution. Firefighters worked on advancing a charged line and the proper nozzle and back up firefighter techniques.

Memorial Day on the Northside was filled with respect and admiration for those who so admirably serviced our great country. FFD participated in the service at the American Legion Post and then marched with over 30 members in the parade.
As always FFD firefighters will be busy all weekend with the events on the Northside. Department firefighters will again prepare potato cakes at the Public Park during the Kevin Car Show on Saturday and during the Memorial Celebration.
Tonight Freeland Fire Department helped to cleanup and prepare Martin's Square in downtown Freeland for the Memorial Day Weekend Celebration.
The engine company became a limo for the HAHS prom and delivered Firefighters Steven Felker and James Darvell along with their guest to the event. Lieutenant Paul Malloy handled the duties of chariot driver and helped these firefighters enjoy a memorable evening

Last evening White Haven and FFD firefighters completed the Pumps II program with a practical exercise on the FMA system. PA Local Level Instructor Tony Riccardi first demonstrated the relationship between different hose sizes, friction loss, and flows.

As part of our joint training program with White Haven Fire Co. a Structural Burn Session was held at the Whitehall Training Facility. Firefighters from both departments along with those from other organizations spent two days training and were involved with class "a" burns.

As our membership continues to grow the department recognizes the need to provide our firefighters with compliant PPE. This year's PA Fire Grant was again assigned to purchase PPE and five new complete Globe sets were distributed.

This evening FFD members attended an American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Refresher at Freeland Northside BLS station. Instructor Daniel P. Bobby reviewed all the necessary elements of the program and administered the appropriate tests.

Yesterday started with the preparations for the chicken bar b que just after the sun rise. The chicken halves were basted in Stan's secret recipe and then cooked upon an open charcoal fire in the Public Park.

On Saturday, April 27, The Polskie Swingmasters will be performing at the Freeland VFW Post 5010 for a benefit for FPD and FFD. The evening will start at 6 pm with a dinner catered by our friends from The Other Side Restaurant.

As is our practice annually FFD assisted FAST with the clean up and maintenance of the Dr. Gallagher/Educator Korol Memorial in the Alvington Section of the Boro. Both engines loaded up and washed out the WPA stone ditches and the streets surrounding the area.
This weekend FFD firefighters completed the Exterior Firefighter Course in the Essentials of Firefighting Program at LCCC/PSTI. Nick Heffelfinger, Will Moore, Ed Hoffer, and Theresa Karosa finished the practical sessions and passed their written final exam.

Firefighters Stan Quantance, Rob Witner, James Darvell, Mike Radjavitch (also a member of White Haven), and Gerry Guscott (soon to be a member) completed EVOC this weekend at FFD. The class was taught by Hondo Noble and was well instructed.
Finally the weather improved enough to provide for some good outside training. White Haven and FFD got together last evening for a session on hydrant use. All participants exercised on connecting to the hydrant utilizing various scenarios.

Last night Engine 1 and Engine 2 crews began the annual street cleaning of the Freeland Downtown Business District. The Engine Company crews enjoyed the spring temperatures and the cleanup will continue tonight on Center Street from South street to the Boro Line.

After being released from the Carbon stand by, the truck crew loaded up and headed up county to participate in the ladder evolutions in the Exterior Firefighter Class. Students threw numerous ground ladders including the 40 ft.
