Today the truck made the trip to LCCC/PSTI to assist in the ladder practical portion of the Exterior Firefighter Class. The main ladder was flown to the top of the burn building and students practiced climbing and tranferring from the stick to the roof.

The Annual White Haven Fire Co. #1 and FFD was attended by many members of both organizations with all having a fine day. Over 150 people spent the day eating, playing games, and eating some more. All the approvals for the financing of the truck have been received with DCED approval arriving yesterday. Within a few days the truck will be arriving in the boro and after equipment transfer and engineer training will be placed in service.
White Haven and FFD firefighters completed the next course in the joint training program which was achieving Awareness Level in Sturctural Collapse. The course was taught by Jeff Finley who is a PA Local Level Instructor from Wayne County.

To cap off a day of training and public service the engine and rescue engine loaded up and attended the Freeland Whippet (Youth) Football Homecoming and bon fire. The rigs loaded up and went to DellaCroce Memorial Field to provide coverage during this annual and well attended event.

The Freeland Little League awarded its 2013 Championship to the Freeland Fire Department Team. This team won the championship in a best of three playoff. The department sponsored a pizza party for the champs and escorted them to the annual Little League picnic with the engine and rescue engine.
A Northside Tradition that dates many, many years, MMI conducted its annual pajama parade. This event is part of the freshman class initiation to the senior portion of the preparatory school and entails the frosh marching up Centre St.
White Haven and FFD firefighters completed a CO Emergencies Class as the most recent in our joint training program. The class was again taught by Joe Perugino who is a PA Local Level Instructor and UGI Trainer.

The truck and rescue engine manned up and proceeded to the City for participation in the Annual 9/11 Memorial Service. The service involved the blessing of a piece of steel from the World Trade Center which will remain at the memorial site at Holy Rosary RC Church in the Heights Section.

FFD loaded up the truck and engine and proceeded to the city to pariticipate in this years Funfest. The truck along with the quint from McAdoo Fire Co. No. 1 set up the ladder arch with the USA Flag at Broad and Laurel Sts.
White Haven and FFD firefighters completed a PA Local level Training on Electrical Emergencies held at White Haven Station. The class was instructed by Joe Perugino. a local level instructor and also a UGI Electric Representative.

This morning the department was informed of the passing of Elaine Brogan, wife of Life Member Jack Brogan. Elaine was one of the first to work the hoagie sale program of the department beginning in he early 1980's as a fund raiser for the 100th.

FFD Chaplin Rev. Gary Mensinger performed a Memorial Service and Gear Blessing at the Holy Dormition Monastery in Sugarloaf Twp. The service consisted of a Parastas which prays for those firefighters who passed after serving their communities for many years.
It was a truly surreal feeling yesterday as an event for the celebration of the 150th. Anniversary of Mahanoy City turned into a day of sorrow. Who could known that a fire would destroy an integral part of the community during one of the most celebrated days in its history.

This weekend White Haven and FFD firefighters completed a Legal Aspects of the Fire Service which was taught by veteran instructor Tony Riccardi. The class reviewed all aspects of the fire service and how the actions of personnel impacts potential legal actions.

This evening FFD firefighters completed the Annual Haz Mat Ops Refresher training with an emphasis on foam operations. HFD Deputy Chief and PA Local Level Instructor Brian Mandak conducted the very informative and educational session.
