Chief Joseph J. Stepansky authorized the release of the Training Report - 2015 which exhibited the dedication of department firefighters to improving their firefighting skills. For a third straight year over 3,000 hours were spent by firefighters during training.

All the Freeland Fire Department members and their families would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving holiday.
FFD Chief Joseph J. Stepansky and Asst. Chief Engineer Larry Stepansky were recently notified that they successfully completed the Driver Operator Aerial Certification. The certification took place at LCCC/PSTI and consisted of a written exam and practical verification of skills.
FFD firefighters recently completed the PA Certification Evaluator Program at LCCC/PSTI and Lancaster County Fire Training Institute. The firefighters who have completed FF1 and this course will be eligible to evaluate the FF1 certification test after attending two testing sessions as an apprentice....

When 136 Engine 1 was being specified the department desired to retain the amount of discharges that 53 had and make it more efficient. There were some who questioned the need for all the plumbing, the performance specifications, and the general set up of the rig.

While one FFD crew was involved in the fire prevention program at Freeland El/Middle School another crew assisted Waterworks with the annual hose testing. On a cold and blustery day the test was performed in the Hill Section which made for quite the challenge.
FFD firefighters concluded the annual fire prevention program at the Freeland Elementary and Middle Schools which was started earlier but postponed due to a previous incident at the school caused by sewer gas odor.

FFD firefighters loaded up the truck and spent a training session with Hazleton City Firefighters in truck operations. Pre use inspection, ladder operations, emergency procedures, and ladder pipe set up were the topics of the session.

During the early 1980's the department determined it was time to improve the fire protection to our community by developing a more modern approach to truck operations. The 1955 Maxim had outlived its useful life and did not pass certification.

Yesterday afternoon FFD participated in the annual safe trick or treat on Centre Street well over 800 children and their parents from the Freeland area lined Centre Street from Front Street to Carbon Street to get the treats donated by various business and civic organizations.

This evening FFD participated in the Light Up the Night for a Cure which was a fund raiser for those fighting cancer. Freeland Boro Past Mayor Tami Martin has worked diligently to raise funds to battle this dreaded disease and this one has to rank as one of her greatest successes.
