FFD sponsored its Lenten Dinner offering this year our famous potato cakes. Again as always this late winter event turned out to be a big success. The potato cakes have become a cornerstone of the department's fund raising and our customers are always looking for an opportunity to get them.

During the cold weather months FFD moves its training to the inside to work on skills that can be learned/reinforced without being outdoors. Electrical operations, appliance application and use, PPE safety, SCBA maintenance and operations, and RIT procedures have all been instructed.

As per department by laws and custom the Audit Committee presented the 2015 Financial Statements to the body at this month's meeting. As usual Treasurer Sandra Kuklis was commended for her excellent record keeping.

FFD was proud to support the Annual Country for a Cure Event held at the Freeland Event Center. Firefighters manned the beverage area for the dinner dance which is held to support those battling cancer.

Chief Joseph J. Stepansky requested all residents who have the ability to assist the department by clearing the hydrants in their neighborhoods of snow. This will provide quick access to firefighters in the event of a fire saving valuable minutes in the fire fight.

Again FFD personnel manned the station throughout the latest Nor'easter which hit the region. Manning began at 1800 hrs. on Friday and will continue until midnight tonight. Personnel performed various public assistance responses and assisted Freeland Northside BLS on medical calls.

FFD firefighters attended a PA Local Level Training Course which focused on dealing with emergencies in electric vehicles. The course consisted of a lecture and visit to an automobile dealership to view the components of these vehicles.

During the past twelve months FFD has been working on increasing their Pro Board Certification through the PA Office of the State Fire Commissioner. At last night's meeting these achievements were recognized.

Thursday January 7 is the official Christmas for the Russian Orthodox people. The Freeland Fire Department and their families would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
Chief Joseph J. Stepansky presented his report for 2015. The department responded to 254 calls for service during the year. Along with the incidents department members attended training, maintained the apparatus, raised funds, and even found time for some fun.
