Again the FFD Potato Cake Sale during the Memorial Weekend Celebration at the Freeland Public Park was a success. The weather was perfect until a thunder storm hit late Monday but by that time the product was sold out.

FFD along with many other regional fire and EMS services paid tribute at the wake and funeral of longtime dedicated firefighter/EMT George Czarnecki. His untimely passing was mourned by many who respected him for his service.

FFD participated in the Memorial Day events on the Northside in honor of those who bravely served our country. Our veterans hold a revered spot in the history of our great nation and deserve our recognition of their service not only on this weekend but all year long.
Over the past month FFD firefighters have been assisting Northside organizations in preparing for the Memorial Day Holiday. The American Legion and VFW outside areas and Gallagher-Korol Memorial have all been cleaned up by department personnel.

Chief Joseph J. Stepansky announced a burn ban in effect until further notice in both Northside communities of Freeland and Jeddo Boroughs. The dry windy spring conditions have caused the ban to be implemented.

FFD supported Foundation 58 during the past weekend at the organization's annual bowling fund raising event. The department sent two teams to the tournament and also sponsored a lane. Foundation 58 supports cancer victims and their families in the Greater Hazleton Area.
