FFD always has a busy Memorial Day Holiday and this year was no different. The department has one of its most successful fund raising events of the year at the Memorial Weekend Celebration at the Freeland Public Park.

The spring Chicken BBQ held in the Public Park on Saturday was another huge success and was sold out according to the BBQ committee. Our next event will be the annual Potato Cake sale at the Memorial Day event in the Public Park.

The Freeland Fire Department recently purchased equipment to improve its fire ground operations. A piercing nozzle was purchased which can be driven through a wall, floor, or roof to apply water at the rate of 175 gallons per minute to areas which are inaccessible.

Recently FFD firefighters continued to expand their skills with training opportunities. Engineer Paul Gyurko, Sr., and Firefighter Paul Gyurko, Jr., attended the PA Local Level Training Course Basic Vehicle Rescue Awareness at the Hazleton City Fire Southside Fire Station.
During winter storms the dedicated volunteers of the Freeland Fire Department man the station around the clock to ensure the station is clear of snow and that, in the event of an incident, apparatus respond in a timely manner.
