As is our tradition, FFD honored those who serve during the Memorial Day Services held on the Northside. The Department firefighters participated in the Freeland American Legion Post 473 ceremony at the post home on Centre St.
FFD Chief Emeritus John "Jeff" Teliho was honored as the Grand Marshall for the Memorial Day Ceremonies held on the Northside. Jeff served the US Navy and is a 50 year member of the Freeland American Legion Post 473.
FREELAND FIRE DEPARTMENT RECERTIFIED BY OFFICE OF STATE FIRE COMMISSIONER Recently the Freeland Fire Department was informed by the Office of the PA State Fire Commissioner that is has been recertified as a Bronze Level in the Participating Department Program.

Spring cleanup of Center Street was conducted on Monday and Wednesday . 136 Engine and 136 Rescue assisted the Freeland Streets crew cleaning the sidewalks and street on Centre Street.
FFD continues to grow its firefighter base with four members completing Essentials of Firefighting Interior Firefighter at the McAdoo Fire Co., Schuylkill County. The firefighters will now need to complete a PA Local Level Structural Firefighting Class prior to performing interior attack work.

As always the Chicken Bar B Que was a sell out with 300 meals tasty meals being served to the hungry customers. The FFD chefs cooked up the chicken using the secret recipe (held under lock and key) along with baked potato and home made cole slaw.

FFD supported the Freeland Little League Opening Day with the appearance of the engine at the event. The crew also walked in with the Department 11-12 age group team which won three consecutive championships, 2014, 2015, 2016.
FFD attended the PA Local Level Training Art of Reading Smoke Class hosted by the White Haven Fire Co. The class was instructed by John Fogg, Chief of the Colonial Park Fire Co., Dauphin County and Career Captain on DOD DLA Rescue 69.
As is the tradition of the Department carried on from the Citizens Hose and Fourth Ward, firefighters and apparatus participated in the Annual Sons of Erin St, Patrick's Day Parade which was held on the streets of the Northside on Saturday.
Over a three day period FFD fought three fires which involved the laying of supply line and the advancement of attack lines. This unprecedented run of work for the department brought out the best of membership.

Winter in house training continued with our training officer going over hydrant connections.
The FFD officers and members offer their sympathy to the family of Joseph LaPorte who was a life member of the Department. Joe was originally a member of the Fourth Ward Fire Co. and continued his membership after the merger with the Citizens Hose Co.

Chief Joseph J. Stepansky authorized the release of the Training Report - 2017 which exhibited the dedication of department firefighters to improving their firefighting skills. This year FFD firefighters attended 3,273 hours of training.
