FFD offers its condolences to the family of Ron Briggs. He was a long time member of the Department originally joining the Citizens Hose Co. in the late 1960’s. Originally he operated as a firefighter and then transferred to fire police.

FFD recently completed the annual hose testing. This testing is important to ensure our hose is capable to put water on the fire in order to protect lives and property. It is a labor intensive project due to the large amount of hose the Department has in its inventory.

FFD extends its condolences to the family of James P. “Smokey” Quinn. Smokey was a life member of the Freeland Fire Department originally joining the Citizens Hose Co. He was a strong and loyal supporter of the Citizens and later after the merger to FFD.

FFD was involved in many activities during the Memorial Day Weekend. The Department provided support to the Robert Kevin Car Show on Saturday at the Freeland Public Park. Also on Saturday the utility responded to a child stuck in a bicycle wheel in the 300 block of Centre St.

From photo 1 to photo 2. Weis Market today held a reopening ceremony at its store in West Hazleton. The Weis firm was gracious to contribute to all the agencies that responded to the incident. FFD extends its appreciation to Weis for their donation to the Department.

FFD had five firefighters attend the Beyond Sidewalk Supervision program sponsored by Luzerne County Community College Public Safety Institute. The program was instructed by Chief Floyd Wise of Combat Ready Fire Training and focused on developing a strong command culture in the fire service.
